In the ongoing battle for holiday awesomeness, it seems that a rotund elder gentleman (aka Santa Claus) and his minions (the elves) continues to crush the competition. A staggering 76 percent of online mentions across Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and the real time web –  roughly 36,000 per day – are dedicated to Santa (including his many monikers of Saint Nick, Father Christmas, etc.) and his elves.

The Grinch seems to have a solid group of fans as his sinister snideness comes in third with 17 percent of online mentions, significantly more than fellow winter figures Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph, or Jack Frost. Apparently nipping at your nose doesn’t get you in good favor with the masses…
