Q:  How do you use social media at your outlet? Which platforms do you like best?

Steph Yiu, new media strategist at America’s Test Kitchen, says: “At America’s Test Kitchen, we use social media to increase transparency of the kitchen and interact with our audience in a positive way

“For example, we post live snapshots of the test kitchen on Instagram several times a day. We also work with outside bloggers to throw “America’s Test Kitchen Dinner Parties” all across North America. We encourage fans to post photographs of their completed America’s Test Kitchen dishes on our Facebook page, and spotlight a “Fan Photo” each week. Finally, we have regular hour-long Twitter chats with our TV show hosts.

The platform I like best is our own: AmericasTestKitchenFeed.com. It’s a site built to interact with our audience, and be a home to all of our social media feeds. Obviously, we spend a lot of time on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Tumblr and many other platforms, but by building a community on your own site, you don’t need to worry about the ebb and flow of different social media sites getting popular, or fading out.”
