The Interactive portion of SXSW recently came to a close. Here are some of the hot trends that we and others saw emerging:
Location Based Services
- LocalMind – lets users ask questions of people checked in near them. In a post on his favorite new app at SXSW, uber-blogger Robert Scoble said of LocalMind, “It’s like Quora and Foursquare got together and had a baby.” A quite adept description. - SCVNGR – the location-based game for mobile phones builds a game around existing reality.
- Four-Square – while not a new application there was still a lot of talk about the latest 3.0 version and successfully leveraging it at SXSW.
Group Messaging
- GroupMe – makes it easy to group text your phone contacts. It’s free and works on all phones.
- Beluga – it’s also free application that is meant to help groups of friends make plans, share photos and updates and stay in touch on the go.
New Mobile Apps
- Tweetsii – a new real time application that connects people with places by bridging twitter and your mobile phone to see nearby tweets, check in and out of places, add photos to places and comments, see what’s happening and where, explore what’s trending nearby, etc.
