A question we’ve addressed often on this blog is, with all the metrics available for determining influence on the social Web, how can you determine which blogs really matter? Our colleagues at Cision UK have released a list of the top 50 blogs in the UK, measured both in terms of their passive audiences and the number of people sharing each blog’s content elsewhere online.

Such a mix of traditional measures of the volume of eyeballs on a piece of content, along with gauges of the impact of content sharing such as inbound links, has become essential to understanding the reach of a mention of your brand on the Web. Cision UK’s algorithm gives equal weight to Unique Visitors per Month, a measure of passive consumption, and inbound links, a measure of active content sharing. Mashable, a blog with Scottish roots and a primary source for industry news about the social Web on both sides of the Atlantic, topped the list.

Increasingly, PR professionals are reaching out to bloggers internationally to promote products with global markets. For North American communications professionals, as we’ve said before, being aware of preferences and conventions abroad is important.

What tips or questions do you have regarding blogger outreach? Please share them in the comments.
